Wyndham Fiji welcome drinks

Grandson Jack, grand daughter Georgia, eldest daughter Kylie and me

I have been an Owner since 2004. This was my 5th visit to Wyndham Resort Denarau Island, Fiji, the most beautiful paradise, and beautiful people.

My three adult children and partners, and two grandchildren joined me this time, which was really special. The first week was beautiful weather, but the second was rain, floods and passing cyclones.

This didn’t dampen our spirit, even though a little scary for some. Resort stranded, I commend the staff at Wyndham in Fiji for their high spirits in keeping people calm. They also were stranded but managed a welcoming beautiful smile for everyone.

Denarau Island during Tropical Cyclone Evan

Before and after Cyclone Evan at Wyndham Resort Denarau Island

Before and after Cyclone Evan at Wyndham Resort Denarau Island

Emma, daughter of Wyndham staffer Scott Campbell, shares her perspective of Tropical Cyclone Evan – which hit Denarau Island during their recent family holiday.

Bula,

It was hard to believe that the way in which WorldMark welcomed us into our long looked-forward-to holiday could be warmer than Fiji’s afternoon sun above casting a dry heat over the beautiful island of Denarau.

Although, as the friendly staff and a strumming ukulele greeted us into the foyer, alarming announcements on cyclone ‘Evan’ pinned to the notice board were also present. As days passed with flawless weather we made the most of by the resort’s lagoon pool before “Evan” was to make his arrival at Denarau. Despite feeling silly to be stocking the fridge with water and freeing the balcony of outdoor furniture, seeing as though there still wasn’t enough wind present to carry the occasional beach volleyball serve hit wrong over the net, we prepared for the worst, still with hope for the best. However, as midday approached, our hope began to decrease simultaneously with the stillness of the ocean, the ‘calm before the storm’.

“Evan’s” arrival brought the transformation of politely swaying palm trees into a vigorous thrash. Holiday makers watched the frightening yet exciting scene unravel behind closed doors, safely watching security screens and other debris fly through the Resort at speed.

Fiji sunset captured by the Resort's pool

Fiji sunset captured by the Resort’s pool

The next morning, sounding like rain and wind rustling palms, turned out to, amazingly, be half of the resort’s guests already hosing down their balconies whilst others raked below and dragged the large debris away.

Each time-share Owner, motivated by the fact they all ‘own’ a small piece of the Resort, were taking personal ownership of the resort and, with the guidance of staff whose village-based homes were near destroyed, worked together to begin the clean-up operation. It was an indescribable feeling to be part of such a community-like group with exceptional attitudes and helping hands, who within a few days made the cyclone seem almost non-existent.

A well-deserved swim and mocktail a couple of days later once the resort was looking great again was the perfect way to reflect on the event which didn’t at all ruin our holiday, but opened our eyes to the extraordinary people at WorldMark, both guests and staff.

Vinaka, Wyndham, for an unforgettable stay.

January 2013 Holiday in Fiji!

Wyndham Vacation Resorts Denarau IslandI would like to share our awesome experience during our family holidays this January 2013 at Fiji – Wyndham Denarau Island.

We stayed for a week (too short for the excellent time), we really didn’t have any need to go out of the resort.
During our stay the staff prepared  a lot of activities: fish feeding, frog hunting, frog races, dye t-shirts, races in the pool for everyone (including my husband, Luis), aqua dance, bingo, etc…

We had the opportunity to share time with other Owners and sales staff during the Owners’ drinks night and also I learned a little bit of how to dance the Fijian style!!

That’s me in the blue top, learning to dance Fijian style!

We all loved the cocktails in the pool bar (including the kids).

We organized with the staff help some extra activities like the Jet Sky and the Mud bath!!

My sister from Venezuela joined us and she loved the serenades every evening by the pool bar!!!

I can’t describe my kids passion for the pool and how lovely the staff from the new Mexican restaurant ‘Mamacita’ served us.

Our time was very special, Thank you all for a lovely Fiji time :)

Bula. Thank you, staff at Wyndham, for a fantastic week.

We brought friends, who hadn’t yet enjoyed Wyndham’s hospitality, and they are now new Owners, committed to enjoying what you have to offer.

We definitely want to return to Denarau Island, Fiji some day, with members of our family. It is close enough to home and far enough away to feel like you’re really on holidays.

What a great idea, having the Bula Bus drive around the island to showcase the resorts. It is so easy to get around to Nadi especially, we also drove through local villages.

We had a lovely relaxing time. Thank you once again, Wyndham at Denarau Island, Fiji.

Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific Denarau Island FijiThis was about our 17th trip to Denarau Island, Fiji. It’s our home away from home.

Watching the sunset every afternoon was my highlight. The staff and locals are amazing and there is no time like “Fiji time”.

We signed up to Wyndham (Trendwest) back in 2001. Prior to that we were staying over at the Coral Coast.  Best thing we ever did. Our kids love it… we have made so many fond memories here at Fiji.

“Perpetual Holidaying – The concept that changed our family.”

Perpetual holidaying - Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific Denarau Island

Our trip to Denarau Island, Fiji, in 2010

We’ve all been there. All those exciting months of planning and booking, the packing and anticipation of things to come. Then the big day arrives. All the last minute hustle and bustle before you jump in the car and start the infamous road trip arguments. How long till we’re there? I’m hungry. My Nintendo has gone flat. But then you see it. The first road sign that indicates you are on the final path to your much awaited destination.

Now the feeling of elation. De-stressing is so easy when you take the simplistic style and spaciousness of your WorldMark apartment with you on every holiday. The kids slip very swiftly into their traditional swim in the pool – 5 seconds after the car is unpacked – whilst the parents set things up for that home away from home feel. Wine and beer unpacked into the fridge, kids’ bags shoved into their rooms – then it’s their turn to head to the pool for a few hours.

This goes on for days. It’s the same every holiday except for one thing – the location changes. The peace of mind of consistent service and quality no matter where you go and yet every holiday is different. Different views. Different restaurants to visit. Different people to meet. New friends to be made and old friends found again…

WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham

At Wyndham Resort Denarau Island, 2010

But as the well worn expression predicts, all good things must come to and end. The long awaited holiday has now started nearing the end. Mum and Dad are starting to think about what awaits them at work and the kids are starting to revert back to their former abrasive ways as they too realise the holiday is almost over.

Our family has been here before. But never again. We decided there are two ways to ensure we don’t suffer from post holiday depression ever again.

A – Never take holidays again, or;

B – Perpetual Holidaying

“What?” I hear you say. Perpetual Holidaying? You’re just making that up – Correct. I did. And it’s the best thing we ever did. It’s simple (well it is if you’re a WorldMark Owner). All you have to do is ensure you have your next holiday booked before your current one is over. So now whenever you near the end of your holiday – you start looking forward to your next one.

Of course we’ve taken it to the extreme. Hunter Valley this weekend with the wife. Two weeks in Port Douglas and Cairns in Sept/Oct already booked followed by a week in Fiji in November – with a family we met when we were there three years ago. And to top it off, we’ve taken advantage of borrowing next year’s Credits – to book next year’s holiday – 8 nights in the beautiful Coffs Harbour – Treetops resort – with some other friends coming along as well.

“Perpetual Holidaying – get into it”.

Sabeto mud and hot springs were unbelievable!

First time visiting Fiji, the whole family decided to go to Wyndham Resort Denarau Island.

We fell in love with the resort and location, people are so friendly and the atmosphere was great.

The pool set out was also great, we loved the Bula Bus ride and hope we will do it again. Also took a day tour and went to a Hindu Temple, whilst at Nadi City Centre we did some shopping and bought some souvenirs.

10 Sun Soaked Days in Fiji

Mud pools Fiji | WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham

Fun in the mud!

What does one do to keep warm in Melbourne in winter?

Simple.

Fly to Fiji.

My wife and I, together with one of our daughters and one of our 13 grandchildren did precisely that. We left Melbourne at 9.30am on the 30th June 2013 with the temperature touching 4 degrees and arrived in Fiji at 4.15pm (Fiji time) with the temperature at 30 degrees.

What more could we ask for, 10 days of total relaxation, or so we thought.

Fiji and the Wyndham resort on Denarau Island had so much to offer that we were on the go day in, day out. We sipped cocktails by the pool, visited a Fijian island for the day, snorkelled, parasailed, kayaked, swam and not to mention improved our tan.

Fiji sunset | WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham South Sea Island, FIji | WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham Orchids at the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, Fiji | WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham Parasailing | WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham South Sea Island | WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham

One major highlight of our 10 day escape was a visit to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant. If you like orchids then this is the place to go. We saw some of the most beautiful orchids that you could ever want to see. Whilst we were out that way we got up close and dirty in the mud pool and hot spring, only a 10 minute drive from the garden. Something new and certainly something different, but loads of fun. Our trip to the mud pool and hot spring was finished off nicely with a full body massage.

We had many meals at Mamacita’s Mexican restaurant where we enjoyed great food and great entertainment, as did many other Owners and guests, as the restaurant was packed out most nights that we were there.

We also enjoyed meals in our apartment using vegetables and fruit that we purchased from the Nadi fruit and vegetable market and meat from a local butcher in Nadi.

Leaving Fiji after 10 sun soaked days was sad but at least we left with the knowledge.that we will return there the same time next year.

“We’ve Visited Fiji 12 Times!”

Wyndham Resort Denarau Island poolWe have been Owners since 2003 and we would say that purchasing holiday Credits with Wyndham was a truly inspired decision and one with which we have absolutely no regrets. We have enjoyed many weeks of delightful holidays and stayed multiple times at resorts including Denarau Island,  Sydney, Pokolbin Hill and Golden Beach – our son and his family also enjoyed a stay at Kirra Beach.

Our favourite resort is Denarau Island, Fiji, where we have visited 12 times since joining – sometimes just Annette and myself but also with our daughter and family or our son and his family.

The things we like about Wyndham Resort Denarau Island are that it is only a short flight time from Auckland to Nadi, the accommodation is excellent and the weather is generally good. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Whilst there are plenty of touristy things to do if one wishes it is still a great holiday just relaxing at the resort or taking the Bula Bus around the Island.

Having visited the resort so many times, many of the long term staff are considered to be good friends and we look forward to meeting them again whenever we return. An example of this is Vasiti Matakada who worked at the Kids Club on our earlier visits but is now employed at the front reception desk.

Here are a couple of photographs showing Va with our grandsons, Joshua and Samuel – the first one at the Kids Club in 2004 and the second on a recent visit, the fourth time the boys have been to Wyndham Resort Denarau Island.

Our Wedding Anniversary in Fiji – 22 November 2013

$

040Hard to believe it was exactly 13 years ago that we set foot on Fijian soil as brand new Wyndham Owners, staying at WorldMark Resort Denarau Island.  We decided to elope and have our wedding ceremony on the beach, next to the pool at the resort – just Ray and I, oh and a fantastic English couple, Rob and Ann that we met at the bar earlier in the week.

Hard to believe because so much has happened in our lives in the 13 years – like our two beautiful children, Connor and Ruby. It’s hard to believe because “wow” how much has this resort changed.  Like Ray’s and my bodies, it is about 4 times larger; however it definitely is not looking older like us.

It is hardly recognisable (in a good way).  It certainly has had a face lift - something we should definitely consider.

Just to fill you in – when we got married at the resort in 2000, it had only just been completed, so there was no restaurant, no kids club, no adults’ pool, no activities hut or activities for that matter, and no Karma Club.

There was basically our accommodation and the gorgeous pool with swim-up bar.

P1000729 P1000728

For our stay this time (with the kids) we had a 2-Bedroom Deluxe room which was spacious and beautiful.  What we just love about our Wyndham holidays is the genuine feeling of community with the Owners.  No sooner had we dumped our gear in the room, moseyed on up to the pool bar, with the kids jumping in the pool, when we met some great Owners from around Australia, and of course the kids were making friends in the pool.

Wyndham really need to be congratulated on this renovation – it is superb (and I am very fussy). The Wyndham staff were terrific and the kids wanted to stay forever I think.  Sadly all good things have to come to an end.

What a great holiday and anniversary, it really did exceed our expectations.

Hmmmmmm where to next?  Maybe Hawaii and Disneyland.  We will definitely go back to Fiji though – perhaps our 20th Anniversary.  Well that might be a bit too far away.  I think the kids will be nagging us to go back well before then.

My wedding at Wyndham Resort Denarau Island 2013

We had an amazing time, it was a beautiful wedding at Wyndham Resort Denarau Island and we met some amazing people who celebrated our wedding with us. The resort staff were wonderful and provided us with as much support as possible.

It was difficult to decide which picture to send, but I believe this one really represents what an amazing Club we belong to and the wonderful people you can meet along the way. I really enjoy meeting people who are Club Owners and find out where they have travelled and the experiences they have had.

Thank you, Wyndham.

“Denarau Island Fiji was absolutely beautiful”

Wyndham Resort Denarau Island walkwayWe went to Wyndham Resort Denarau Island and it was absolutely beautiful.

The whole resort was beautifully set out, our apartments were gorgeous. The three flights of stairs was a bit of a challenge, but we coped hahaha. I swam in the absolutely stunning pool every day.

My husband and took a bus ride into Nadi, that in itself was an experience. We were there 12 years ago and it had changed dramatically. Bought all the kids and grandkids and great grandkids presents, then jumped on the bus back to Denarau. I also learned how to make grass skirts, which my grandkids thought were super. Even got serenaded on the balcony at night, it was lovely.

It was just what I needed to unwind after a full on year’s work.

And we know when we go to our WorldMark resorts they have all been first class. Thanks everybody.

At Fiji!

Our story is about our holiday at Wyndham Resort Denarau Island in Fiji, a very special holiday for the family. The holiday was to celebrate Bev’s 60th, so it was Bev and I, our son Neville, daughter in law Amy and our 14 month old grandson Harry.

It could not have been better, Fiji itself is a lovely warm and friendly place but combine that with perfect weather and you have paradise. The resort that has it all, and our two bedroom ocean view apartment, fully fitted out, was perfect.

Poor little Harry, with the ocean one way and the pool the other he could not decide which way to turn.

The pool is the biggest on Denarau and the poolbar is the best, the landscaped gardens are beautifully kept. We loved the restaurant by the sea, and of course the lovely friendly Fijian staff.

On Bev’s birthday, the Fijian singers were outside our room, singing ‘happy birthday’. Special indeed, is what we say. Sun, sea, pool, good food and family… what more could you want?

WorldMark Owners

We had an island cruise on Bev’s birthday, and when we got back, we took Harry toad racing by the pool. The beach at Wyndham Resort Denarau Island is over a kilometre long and we were one of many who walked it, so I think we all got home a bit fitter (but we were a bit heavier – but that’s what holidays are for).

Our story is, if you like relaxing, swimming, walking and eating good food in the sun in a beautiful friendly place, maybe you should try it… just make sure you leave some days for us!

We recently holidayed at Wyndham Resort Denarau Island in August for my 60th Birthday.

We took another family who are not Owners as yet, to share the wonderful experience we have enjoyed with our Ownership over the last 11 years.

One of our day trips was the “Sigatoka River Safari”, this is the photo taken with Captain Freddy.

The other family is the “Carters”, Shane, Jody, Candace and Tiffany. We also celebrated Jody’s 40th Birthday and Candace’s 21st Birthday.

This trip we also upgraded to Privileges Elite Platinum, we did this because of the personal touch shown to us by Sheik and Lo in Sales. Plus we want to all come over more often to beautiful FIJI.

This was our 4th trip to Wyndham Resort Denarau Island.
